Michigan Newspaper Project

The Clarke Historical Library is pleased to serve as the agency responsible for microfilming newspapers under the Michigan Newspaper Project. The microfilming phase of the project was begun in July 2002, after the conclusion of the cataloging of all Michigan newspapers by the Library of Michigan. Both the cataloging and the microfilming phases of the project have been funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Although microfilming has begun under the project current funding from NEH will allow for the filming of only approximately nine percent of the unmicrofilmed newspaper pages identified by the Library of Michigan during the cataloging phase. An advisory committee has selected papers to be filmed during the 2002-2004 phase of the project. Continued filming under this program is contingent on the receipt of additional funds from the NEH.

Please click on the link to read who are members of the MNP advisory board, which newspapers have been selected for filming, and the criteria employed by the MNP advisory board in making their selections.
