Researching the Collections of the
Clarke Historical Library Using the Internet
The Clarke Historical Library welcomes users to take advantage of the many resources we offer through the Internet. The most important of these resources is CENTRA, the CMU Libraries on-line catalog. To use CENTRA simply click on the link to the left and follow CENTRA's own instructions.
The Clarke staff also welcomes reference requests sent to us via email. Reference requests can be sent to us at our email address, clarke@cmich.edu. If you have a topic that you would like to research at the Clarke, the staff will do an initial search for you of our indices and catalogs. If the nature of your request involves a response that cannot be sent via email (for example, you wish photocopies of a particularly item), please also include a fax or United States Post Office address to which we can send your requested hard copy items. Obviously, your request will be delayed if we do not have this information. Note also that there is a charge involved for making and sending copies. Please click on the "hours and policies" link for current costs.
Limited staff time does not allow us to answer detailed research inquiries or conduct extensive genealogical research. For these types of in-depth research, you should plan to visit personally. Our hours and policies may be consulted by clicking the "hours and policies" link that you see below. You may also telephone us at 989.774.3352 for more information. If you call after normal business hours (M-F, 8-5 & some selected Saturdays during the fall and spring academic terms) a voice mail system will take a message and we will return your call the next working day.
Please direct your reference questions to Reference Librarian, at clarke@cmich.edu. Because of the volume of junk mail received at this address please include the phrase "reference request" in the subject line. Messages lacking this phrase will be deleted.
